The BBC Radiophonic Workshop
Here's a great documentary about the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The BBC Radiophonic Workshop existed from 1958 to 1998. Its purpose was to create sound effects for BBC programs by using tape loops, oscillators, filters, ring modulators, etc. The Workshop was perhaps best known for its contributions to Spike Milligan's Goon Show and to Doctor Who.
For bonus points, take a few minutes to visit Delia Derbyshire's website. (Don't miss the audio clips.) Delia was employed by the Radiophonic Workshop in the 1960's.
